Father Knows Best-Giveaway!

Father’s Day is on Sunday.

Yeah, you better do something about that.  Soon.
In honor of father’s, I’ve deemed this Men’s Week on the blog.
So, we’re going to talk men everyday this week.  About them.
Why? Just because we can.  M’kay?
Now, ladies, I landed me a good one almost 14 years ago.  He’s not perfect, but perfectly created for me. We are the kind of couple who enjoy spending a lot of time together, I guess because we were best friends in college.
We don’t really like to go our separate ways on the weekend and we wear matching shirts.  Oh, I kid on the shirt thing.  (Although I could dig up a picture of us in matching sweaters, if I wanted to.  But, my hubby draws the line on some things and that’s one of them).
The things I love about him?
He encourages me to be myself and lets me think I’m getting my way on important matters.  He works hard every day and cares deeply.
His love for his children defines him. He was created to be their Dad. He is the fun parent and leads his children by example.
And, he appreciates my deep love for sweet tea.  I, mean, really, what more could I ask for?
Well.
He can cook too.
Growing up, when my Mom would leave my Dad in charge of dinner, we knew what we’d be eating.  He called it SOS. (As in _____ on a shingle). I’ll just let you figure out that one.  It was actually quite yummy, but not exactly eye candy?  I’m just saying.
So, marrying a man who knew his way around the kitchen and enjoyed it, was a pleasant surprise.  He even asked for Rachel Ray’s latest cookbook for his birthday last year.
But I know, there may be more men out there like my Dad, serving up SOS on those girl’s nights out, than like my hubby, preparing something I can’t even pronounce.
I found something to solve that problem.  It’s a cookbook called A Man, A Can, A Plan.  I bought it for the title, but there are some great recipes in there!
This cookbook just cracks me up.
Leave a comment and tell me something you love about your hubby/dad/male pet and you could win this fabulous cookbook in time for Father’s Day!  Please only leave one comment and this little contest will end Monday night at 10 pm (CST time).
Oh, and I have a “My hubby drives me nuts when he does this. . . ” list, too.
Just so ya know.  Yeah, we’re not that cute.

Well…from one sweet tea lover to another (seriously, my love for sweet tea is huge and I chose restaurants based solely on their tea…)… I love your post. Your hubby sounds fantastic. :0)
One thing I love about my hubby is the fact that he “tucks me in” EVERY night. Every one. He takes me to bed, fixes the sheet and blanket, gets me a glass of water (when I was preggers he would get my vitamin), gives me my hand lotion, then turns out the light, and kisses me goodnight. If he walks out and closes the door and I holler for him, he ALWAYS comes back. :0) (to check for boogey monsters, give me another kiss… whatever it is I ask for). I LOOOVE that tradition of ours and I love that he loves it too (he REALLY does!)
    :0)

I love it that even though we’ve known each other since we were 17, my husband can still make me laugh, he still thinks I’m beautiful (stretch marks and all) and he hasn’t pressured me to find a job though it would really help financially.

My husband and I got married a little later in life (we were in our late 30′s), so we both had our own homes and ways of doing things. After we were married I moved over 1500 miles across the country to be with him. I also moved into his house. Now here’s the big deal: Since he had been living the life of a bachelor for many years he continued to clean the bathrooms after I became his wife. Can you say lucky me? In the eight years we’ve been married I don’t think I’ve cleaned a bathroom more than 5 or 6 times. I tell everyone he is a better cleaner than me so I let him do it. He is amazing! (And unfortunately the better cleaner thing is true.) I do clean in other areas… I’m not that bad.

Oh, he also delivered our daughter — in the bathroom. No it wasn’t planned. She was born 5 minutes after my water broke. Another story for another time.

I already have this absolutely wonderful cookbook, and have given several away as gifts, too. But, I did want to say that what I love about my hubby is that he works harder than anyone I’ve ever met. He had to drop out of school at age 15 to support his family in place of his deadbeat, absentee father. He works anywhere from 10-14 hours a day (when all he really wants to do is play drums) so that I can stay home with our children. And, even though he’s exhausted most of the time, he still makes time to play with his girls, mow our 7.03 acre lawn, cook occasionally, help clean the house, etc. He’s an amazing and wonderful person!!!!!

    I love post like these!

What do I love about him, do you have that much room in here?

His dedication to serving GOD and what thrills me most is his desire for me still to this day, three babies later, and serveral sizes bigger it makes for one blessed woman!

Answer: To your question on my comments, timing and depends on God’s blessings!

  6. says

My answer is very simple: He is a man of integrity and a man of his word. Period. Really, everything else just falls under that, ya know? Oh, and he puts up with me. That’s pretty huge!

  7. says

My hubby is so patient with me. He is a man of God. He doesn’t fuss if I don’t cook or clean. (I do these things but I’m saying if I’m having an off day or two.) He is no complainer. He cooks. He’s a great dad.

We can argue about something and he may not admit he is wrong but the next time the instance comes up again he changes…whatever it was from attitude to picking up his shoes. I love this about him, he never forgets and he tries so hard to please me. I’ve been working and focusing on honoring him more with my words and actions. I could go on and on….This is a great Father’s Day post! Thanks!

  8. says

    This is a great post!!
I will pick just one thing..
My hubby is great b/c he never complains ( I probably do enough for both of us). No matter how tired he is he will still go out of the way to make my day easier,
without making snide comments or complaining.

  9. says

hahahaha my family made SOS too. very ugly indeed, but pretty yummy oddly enough.

anyway, my favorite thing about my dad is that he’s always been the guy’s guy, the man’s man…the rebel guy with the tattoo on his forearm. he met my mom, got a degree, became the shirt and tie guy and had two baby girls (hahahaha!) but that’s not what I like. i like that he is a total softee. it’s the cutest thing to see a manly man being a softee with his little girls. and one time when my mom called him out on it (when she said no, he said yes) — he said, “i’m sorry, i can’t help it. they mush me.”

and i think that’s the cutest thing ever. i love my dad.

  10. says

The first thing that attracted me to my husband was his sense of humor and wit. And it’s still at the top of the “what I love about my hubby” list. He makes me (and our kids) laugh every day.

  11. says

My dad is amazing. I was teaching about humility in children’s church yesterday and asked the kids if they could think of anyone who they thought were humble. The entire class unanimously said my father. And they’re soooo right.

  12. says

I love the way my husband loves me, so completely, so fully, for who I am not who he wants me to be. I have no doubt of his love or feelings for me as he shows me numerous times daily. I am thankful for the security that brings.

  13. says

He tells me stories and tucks me in at night. The stories ALWAYS go like this: “Once upon a time, there was a ________, and he was nice….”

  14. says

I love that when I bring up my weight or going on a diet he asks “what do you need to go on a diet for?” and actually means it!

I also love the fierceness at which he protects our kids.

By the way, my husband doesn’t need this cookbook for himself, he can cook fantastic, he needs it so that I can cook for him on those days when he doesn’t have time!

  15. says

I love that he knows when to reign me in and to let me loose and likes how I babbe when I meet new people or when I am nervous. He loves my flaws.

Oh and I love Sweet Tea too. I had it when I went to NC about 10 years ago and have loved it since.

  16. Aimeepalooza says

He says he’s sorry by buying me chocolate bars…(forget roses, I love me some chocolate!)

  17. says

My hubby and I have been together for 19 years!! We have 3 kids–18 years old, 9 years old, and a 10 month old!! My hubby loves to cook too, and is very creative in the kitchen. Yeah.

  18. says

I love that my husband is completely supportive of me being a stay-at-home-mom. When I feel like quitting and think that I’m worthless at home, he reminds me of my value and tells me I’m doing a great job as a mom and wife. :)

  19. says

My husband and I are also that couple that enjoys spending time together. Why go our separate ways when we can do stuff together?
I love a lot about my husband, way too much to write in one comment, but last night I was in a bad mood and he had the good sense to simply get out of my way when I was fussy over absolutely nothing. That’s pretty cool of him, not sure if I would do the same thing.

  20. Mrs. Querido says

Well, my husband definitely isn’t the one who needs the book—I do! LOL! He can cook better than I can :) (And I remember SOS from when it was my Dad’s night to cook…I like how you put it “defintely not eye candy”–I would put it less delicately: “It looks like a cross between puke and giant boogers!” (Ok, gotta stop reminiscing…the gag reflex it kicking in!)

My hubby is an awesome Dad. He hugs and loves on our three children. He plays with them…even our nine month old daughter. He is always there for them, whenever they need him. He is never too tired for bedtime stories. Always prays over them. Makes sure that they are growing up to be men and women that love and serve the Lord.

He is committed to protecting, providing and loving us. He is working full-time and going to school in the evenings. His ambitions are always prefaced with how his dreams will affect our family. He would rather be at home, working in the yard with the boys or holding his daughter in the sunshine, rather than out with friends.

And my favorite part about him being the father of my children (well one of my favorite things..) he can play SILLY with them without embarrassment. When the kids were little, before potty-training, when he would change the diapers (yes, ladies, my man changes diapers too! What a man!) he would put the child’s pants on his HEAD and dance around. Talk about entertaining…LOL..even I was entertained! And he is always making up some funny game to play with his kids.

He makes me laugh :) And that is a very important ingredient in a good marriage!

But most importantly of all, He loves God, has integrity and is committed to the will of the Lord. Just your every day run of the mill, so NOT typical male (did I also mention that he doesn’t really care for sports…no TV fights for us..lol!)

Anyway. thanks for the post…it’s so refreshing to see a wife praise her husband rather than berate him. Thanks for encouraging us to build up the men in our lives!

    Blessings!

    Mrs. Q

Your hubby sounds FAB! And great cookbook idea. If dinner is something my husband doesn’t usually cook on his own and I ask him to make it, he says, “I don’t know how.” Yes honey…that’s why the recipe is on the cxounter. I don;t really know how either…so I am gonna read how. LOL!!

There are so many things I just love about my husband. I am gonna try to blog daily this week on all those many things. But, one of my faves is he too lets me be myself. We are worlds apart when it comes to our personalities. I live to embarrass myself and well, he does not. He just shakes his head and then laughs. I love that I can be as silly as I want to be and although he might say how wierd I am, I know that he really loves every minute of my goofiness. We just click like that. He’s the cool one for sure. I so *heart* him!

  22. says

A few things I love about my hubby:

1.) He always kisses me goodbye and tells me he loves me when he leaves

2.) He loves our son and enjoys taking care of him and playing with him

3.) He runs out to buy me donuts when I’m having a pregnancy craving

    4.) He makes me laugh!

  23. says

Like so many of the ladies above, my husband truly is a man of God and is always aware of how he is representing our Lord.

Beyond that, he is a great DAD!! Don’t ever ask him if he is babysitting!! They are his babies and he doesn’t babysit, he parents!!! And he splits 50/50 with me in the taking care of kids department!!

  24. says

Great post and thanks for doing the giveaway!

There are SO many things I LOVE about my husband.

One of my favorite things about my husband is his cooking. I personally don’t enjoy cooking, but he can’t get enough of it. It really works out well. I truly think he could of been a head chef, he is that good! This last weekend me made asparagus, cheese and bacon wrapped in chicken. It was amazing.

    I love my man!

  25. says

One of my favorite things about my husband is even after 14 years he still reaches for my hand, it might be that we are walking, or just sitting together but he loves me and holds my hand!

  26. says

One of the many great things about my husband is that he works 60 hours a week to provide for his family, and he still makes time and energy to be a great daddy and a great husband. One could easily lose their man to a job like that, but thankfully we have not.

  27. Hosehead says

From another sweet tea lover (seriously, is there any other drink?), I love reading your blog! My hubby is an awesome guy. He has a terrific sense of humor, always making me laugh. He is an awesome dad to our 2 girls. I worried when we decided not to have more kids that he would be disappointed that we only had girls. He always tells me he was born to be girls’ daddy! They are both definitely daddy’s girls!!! Great giveaway! Thanks for offering this!

What I love about my husband is that he doesn’t give up. We are pretty close to bankruptcy and just might be foreclosed on, but he gets up and gets out there with the hope and faith that GOD will bring him work today ( he is a sub-contractor/ handyman). He does this with a smile on his face because he has that child-like faith and expectancy that GOD will work it out, foreclosure or not (I am SO trying hard to be this way and not to worry). He is a great father and likes nothing more than to come home from working 12 to 15hrs, to play Uno with our 2 oldest boys, watch Mickey mouse clubhouse with our 18 month old son, and rock our 6 month old little girl to sleep. He is my lover, my best friend, and someone I want to grow up to be like :0) !!!

  29. says

Something that i LOVE about my hubby:

He ALWAYS helps me out around the house. He cleans up after the kids, sweeps, mops, washes his own clothes, changes diapers…the list of helping goes on and on.
And this is all after a stressful day at work (doing Home Loans).
Oh yeah, and my man loves the Lord and is such an amazing man of God!

  30. says

Thanks for clarifying the matching shirt thing. I was about to gag. What I love most about my husband is his honesty and integrity. He is known for telling the truth – even when it hurts.

  31. says

I love “man week” so much I wish I’d thought of it!
My husband is really great at cooking takeout. Chinese, Thai food, Pizza… the man can do it all!

  32. Stacia (langston6atjuno.com) says

Love your blog! This is a great post and I could honestly go on and on about my husband but I’ll keep it short. He is my best friend, a funny daddy and a humble, gracious Godly man. Thanks!

  33. says

Oh, hon…my husband also loves to cook, which is just perfect since I really don’t enjoy sweating in the kitchen! And he’s really good at it, too!

  34. says

Great post and idea for the week. You are lucky to have a man that cooks.
What I love the most about my man is that he is my voice of reason. And he knows just when to voice that voice!

  35. says

I love that he is always there for the children and always makes an effort to spend quality time with them even though he is tired from work. Thank you for the giveaway!

  36. Angie says

I love that my husband is a faithful father and son. He shows, on a daily basis, that he loves me, our boys, his parents and most importantly, God!

  37. says

Because my husand shows up every.single.day as a husband and dad. I never have to ask if my child is taken care of when he’s around, I know he is.

  38. Favaunt says

Today, my husband and I have been married 18 years. I am thankful that the love of my life loves me right back. Can he cook? We call it SLOP (Somethin’ Laying on the Plate).

His father and mother raised him to be a go-getter. What do I mean by that? He takes care of his family. Whatever he has to do! He spends many hours with our boys (church, sports, fishing, gaming) and still manages to take care of me. He was recently unemployed from November to May. I can HONESTLY say that the time at home together was a wonderful boost to our already great relationship. It was truly a sweet time that I will cherish forever.

  39. says

My hubs is great because for the last three weeks he has either cooked, ordered out or bought whatever it is I was craving at the time. Plus, he is a great cook, so much better than I am. Plus he’s cute! Love the title of the cookbook! Hilarious.

  40. says

What a great post and it sounds like a great hubby!!!

I actually know of SOS and have fixed it!

I always enjoy reading your post!!!

  41. says

Hope I am not too late….

    Cute book!

Love my hubby because….. he is such a hard worker. That’s one of the many reasons I fell in love with him.
    Still is to this day.

    Thanks!

  42. says

I know I’m too late to enter for the book, but I needed to comment anyway. I love the fact that my husband who can even mess up grilled cheese not only can cook a good breakfast, but is willing to get up early and cook breakfast for LP just so I can sleep in a little. Then I hear them running up the stairs and he follows her into the bedroom with a plate for me.

  43. says

My Dad is in heaven now but will live in my heart forever and hopefully I can instill some of his values into my children.
My father was, among other things, very funny! I remember one time my mom was in the hospital so he was of course in charge without mom! It was her day to come home and so he must have been busy cleaning up or something but I remember he let me take all the pots and pans and spoons in the back yard and bang loudly to my hearts content!
A friend brought my mom home that day while I was in the back yard making music. Needless to say, Dad got “into trouble” for letting me be a kid. He laughed and said “she’s a kid; let her be a kid”!
    I was blessed!

(I’m afraid to enter this one because it may lessen my lucky stars for the atari…) but I just had to tell everyone about my Dad!
