DIYP#16- My Love of Chalkboard Paint Has Deepened

You’ve probably picked up on my newly discovered love for chalkboard paint.  I used it in my laundry room makeover and my toddler’s new art table.
I saw this idea in the summer edition of Better Homes & Garden 100 DIY Projects.
And I thought, “Well, well, well, chalkboard paint isn’t just for kids, is it?”
Here’s my new favorite thing:
Take an ornate frame (mine is from Ikea and it’s actually plastic, shhhh, don’t tell):

And rough up the glass on the frame with some course sandpaper (just enough to leave it scratched up a bit).
Take your chalkboard paint and coat the glass after wiping it off. (Or you can buy chalk board spray paint for plastic).

Let it dry and hang it.
Mine is the perfect display for some Bible versus we’re trying to memorize as a family:
If that doesn’t make you feel all warm and tingly, I don’t know what will!

Very creative idea! I hope that you and your family will be safe from the storm. We always get out catch phrase or trivial pursuit cards when the power is out to pass the time.

Oooo, I like that! I’ll have to try it myself! We have an Ikea around here, but I still haven’t gone there. The thing is, I know it won’t be a short trip, so I’ve gotta wait til I have hours to kill before I venture there!

I have quite a cheesy photo on my blog today that you might like, too, right here.

I love this idea and LOVE IKEA! I did chalkboard walls in my kitchen last fall and absolutely love them. I didn’t use traditional chalkboard paint, but just used regular flat paint (can use any color) and added unsanded tile grout to it. It looks beautiful. Check out pics sometime on my blog!

How are y’all doing now after the hurricane? We are from Katy, and we left to my sister-in-law’s house. We haven’t came back yet to see what has happened. All I know is that our power is off and you are not supposed to drink the water.

I love that Kristin! Don’t be surprised if that same project winds up in my home….. do you think it would look as good in a different type of frame?

  22. 22

    Nancy says:

    CanCan says:

Could you also maybe not use the glass, and remove the glass and paint the chalk board stuff directly on the mdf or wood in the back of the frame?
I’m just a little scared of having glass with the kiddies…

SO cute!! At a crafters expo recently, I saw old metal serving/lap trays painted with chk brd paint too…then holes punched on one edge and strung up with heavy gauge wire to hang them.

    RefreshMom says:

Another great idea! I’m still looking for just the right plate to use for a “honey-do list” for DH like the one you used for your “menu” a few days ago. (I’m thinking that’s a little more sophisticated than a ‘chore chart’ and less tiresome than me nagging!)

This is a FREAKIN AWESOME IDEA!

OMG that is soooooo cute! And weird… my Mom had the same mirror YEARS ago, only it was gold… must have been a classic design LOL!
