I don’t know about y’all, but by the time dinner rolls around at my house in my part of Texas, it is hot outside. Like a million degrees, give or take one or two. The last thing I want to do, is bake at 350 (no offense, Bridget).
Here’s what we’ve been doing: bulk grilling.
I marinated a couple of pounds, seasoned another pound and put barbeque sauce on a couple of pounds. I grilled them (or my hubby did to be exact) and we just used the grilled meat in different recipes all week.
It works for me!

I never thought about grilling ahead! Great tip!
Thanks for hosting another great WFMW!

I know! It has been hot here, too. Fire up the grill or turn on the crockpot!
Very smart!! Anything in bulk sounds good to me:)
Thanks for hosting!
We’ve only tried this on a really small scale. We’ll have BBQ chicken one night and then grilled chicken salads the next. I love the idea of grilling in bigger amounts! Less effort…. still tastes great!
Erin at 5 Dollar Dinners wrote about this last week, so it must be a sign that I need to start bulk grilling. It is wicked hot in Maryland too. I can’t imagine turning on my oven right now. Blech!

I am in Texas as well and have been thinking about doing the same exact thing!
I hear you! I have not been motivated to turn on my oven at all lately!
Thanks as always for hosting!
We grill ahead a lot at our house but it is mostly chicken breast for me when I am being a good girl on weight watchers. It’s the only way to go when I want a grilled chicken salad!
We lvoe the flavor of grilled meats. I think bulk grilling is the way to go even when it isn’t 100 degrees, which unfortunately it is.
I love having cooked meat ready to go. It makes it so much easier when it’s hot, or just when life is really busy.
Bulk grilling sounds like a GREAT idea! Thanks for hosting another party. As always, I have your party linked up at my Linky Love Library page
This is a great idea. We are kind of “forced” into bulk grilling because we live in an apartment complex and not allowed to own our own grill. We have to lug our stuff to one of the grilling stations scattered around the complex and hope it’s not already in use; so, when we do get our hands on a grill, we take advantage of it and grill a ton of stuff!
Thanks for hosting!
What a way to be efficient!
I just realized that even though my recipe is kind of boring – for meatballs – it’s the first time I’ve ever made them from scratch instead of just buying them frozen!
We’ve been doing this for several years–since going on the Atkins diet. We buy meat at Sam’s Club, then hubby grills it all at once. We freeze some and refrigerate the rest. If he wants steak and I prefer chicken, we each get what we want. Add a salad or other vegetables and you’re done. So much easier.
Thanks for hosting. We too have recently started batch grilling. Tonight is the first night this week that i will actually need to cook something new. And I think we’re doing pizza.
Great idea…then do you just reheat/put in salads, etc? Where I live it is hot, hot, and I even feel guilty asking my hubby to grill outside, so this works!
Yep! We reheat it for salads or serve it w/veggies. I even put it tortillas and have tacos.
Great time-saving tip. Thanks for the carnival
Hi Kristin! Thanks for hosting, this is my first time linking up! Bulk grilling sounds like a clever way to beat the heat and save time. I like to prep all the veggies when I bring them home (chop, slice, trim) and store them in Tupperware so they’re easy to just toss in a pan and then eat. In my house, the meat is always #1 and sometimes we get lazy about including veggies…
What’s your favorite side for the BBQ’ed meats?
Ha, ha! Oh, I am totally insulted!
You know….you can bulk BAKE and freeze your cookies! I tend to eat all mine before that happen, though.
i love the efficiency of this–and my green self loves the fact that you are only gassing up the grill once.
Hmmmm….. the linky thing isn’t working– I keep getting error messages.
I’m going to drop my link here:

and check back tonight after work so I can link up properly!
Great idea on the batch grilling. I cook things (chicken, ground beef) ahead and freeze indoors… just hadn’t through to do that with the grill yet!
Nevermind the previous comment, it just went through. Lots of traffic, maybe?
Sounds like a great plan. I am so unmotivated to cook with our recent heat wave coupled with caring for our 4 year old, 3 year old and newborn!
If I had the heat you have I wouldn’t be turning on my oven either! As it is when we do have warm days here I hate using the oven because when I do it takes a long time for the house to cool back down. Now winter is a completely different story!
YES! I totally need to start doing this!
Oh I miss Texas! My husband and I are native Texans. We moved to Phoenix AZ last august because he was offered at great job at Grand Canyon University. It’s hot here but I, seriously would take this heat over Texas heat. I LOVE the grilling tip! Thanks for hosting a link party too!
Great idea!
I’ve been thinking about “bulk Grilling” chicken to use in recipes that call for the prepacked and expensive stuff. I think ill give it a try! Thank you for hosting! This is my first time linking up herr. I see dome great links sto check out.
Have a great rest of the week!
Sharon
I am spoiled and don’t have the heat problem. It hits about 80 here, and then we get our monsoons. But, I go back to work in 11 days (who’s counting?) and I know that once I do, dinners will become an afterthought. I think you have done some work with Once a Month cooking? I want to get ahold of a book. Any particular one you suggest? I have been making all my meals, times 4 this summer so that my freezer is stocked up with ready-to-go meals, but I would like a little inspiration and I want to try that Once a month thing.
Oh, and Bridget, I do the baking recipes and then freeze or refrigerate the dough until ready to use, or eat raw, whichever comes first. Usually the eating.
I love grilling as well!! Luckily here in Oregon we can grill every evening if we like, and we do. Thanks for hosting!!
