    We are *still* THAT family

Just when I think we’re moving past being THAT family…you know the ones, I discover a ringworm on one of my kids, experience a tantrum for the record books and spend two hours in the Emergency Room with my son getting six stitches in a nasty cut–all today.

Nope, we are *still* THAT family.

Quick! Tell me your last THAT family moment. Ya know, so I feel normal.

The Wireless Age and Our Children

Our world is wireless. You can print from across the room, surf the Net from the backyard or Chick Fil A parking lot *ahem* and text someone across the globe instantly.

My children are growing up in a convenient, instant world.

    It’s awesome.

    And it’s also scary.

Take a look at these new alarming statistics just released:

71% of teens regard boyfriends/girlfriends spreading rumors about them on cell phones and social networking sites as a serious problem.

1 in 4 teens in a relationship (25%) say they have been called names, harassed, or put down by their partner through cell phones and texting.

68% of teens say boyfriends/girlfriends sharing private or embarrassing pictures/videos on cell phones and computers is a serious problem.

1 in 3 teens (30%) say they are text messaged 10, 20, 30 times an hour by a partner inquiring where they are, what they’re doing, or who they’re with.

82% of parents whose teens were emailed or texted 30 times per hour were unaware this was happening.

(Stats from Teenage Research Unlimited (TRU) studies)

My son is in the 3rd grade. Most of his friends have a cell phone or iTouch (ridiculous if you ask me!) and my 5th grade daughter is way behind the times, too, and I’m going to keep it that way as long as I can.

    I don’t have a problem swimming upstream.

But, in reality, at some point, we will have texting teens (at college, of course!).

How do we keep them safe? Technology entraps kids younger and younger. My nearly 4 year old knows what an email is and recognizes the ping of my computer when Maureen Skypes.

How do you handle the wireless age and your children?

P.S. Our TV broke 3 weeks ago. We decided not to replace it. Best decision ever! We still have one we use for Netflix /Wii, but that’s occasional and it’s awesome. </two cents>

WFMW: How to Eat a Cupcake

[This post required a fair amount of um, research. It was a hard job, but somebody had to do it.]

I used to get frustrated with eating cupcakes because I like to eat icing with every bite of cake. This always proved to be difficult because I always had cake leftover. I want to share THE PERFECT way to eat a cupcake and get icing with every bite: I give you a cupcake sandwich.

This might just change your cupcake-eating life:

    Step 1: Make/Buy a cupcake.

    Step 2: Remove cupcake wrapper.

Step 3: Carefully break off bottom half of cake. Seriously.

Step 4: Press broken half of cake ON TOP of icing, where icing is in the middle of two cake halves

    Step 5: Eat.

    Step 6: Repeat often.

    Cupcake sandwiches work for me!

    The Love Cycle {Giveaway}

*Updated w/Winners* Congrats to random comments #33 Crayl and #104 Nicole at Team Pipkin!

I was feeling lazy. I needed my computer cord and didn’t want to go into the other room.

My hubby was catching up on expense reports for work.

Knowing full-well that I was choosing myself over him, I interrupted him and asked: “Honey, would you go get my computer cord?”

    Oh, yes, I did.

    He looked at me.

    And made a choice.

He got up and returned a few seconds later, even plugging it in for me.

“Thanks,” I said sheepishly. “I should have done it myself since you were busy.”

“Do you know why I did it?”

    I shook my head.

“Because earlier today you went out of your way to do something for me. I wanted to,” he said.

Do you know how much that little act meant to me? You can bet I did something nice for him at the very next opportunity!

Love is a cycle. But there are two paths:  giving and going the extra mile; or repaying one negative with another.

Marriage is a give and take. We can’t be the only one giving, or always taking. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been known to scream, “GET IT YOURSELF!” and both felt yucky.

Today, I challenge you to go the extra mile in your marriage.

Union28 sent me the coziest hoodie to review the other day. I wore it to my son’s last YMCA flag football game.

I love wearing love on my sleeve.

There are some great shirts on clearance and if you use the coupon code on the ad in my sidebar, you can really get a deal! shirts

Please leave a comment telling how long you’ve been married as your entry.
