WFMW: Hummus Among Us

My hubby can work magic with The Garbanzo Bean. His knack for turning chick peas into hummus is profound.

We use it as a spread on bread, we dip pretzels, carrots, crackers, celery, our fingers in it.

Plus, it’s healthy! But don’t tell my kids.

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

2 cans drained chickpeas

1/3 cup lemon juice

2 heaping tablespoons sesame tahini

4-6 cloves of minced garlic

11/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon of ground cumin

1/4 or more of cayenne pepper

2 roasted red peppers from a can

Approximately 1 tablespoon olive oil

Blend in food processor or blender

What works for you?

Yum! Thanks for sharing the recipe-never made it from scratch but always eat it! I always spread roasted red pepper hummus and top with feta cheese and chopped kalamata olives-its really good!

Wow, we must all have FOOD on the brain! Look at all the recipes already listed! (me included!) Your hummus sounds so yummy. Now I am craving some right. now. Too bad for me–I’m out in the boonies with no chickpeas within 30 miles… :-)

I’m praying for your family in Kenya!!! What an amazing experience for your family to experience together.

Sometimes tahini is hard to find (or expensive!) You can make the same recipe, and substitute sunflower seeds (2-4 tablespoons). I’d recommend you put the sunflower seeds in the blender first with a little bit of the lemon juice or olive oil to get it nice and creamy, and then add and blend the other ingredients. We love hummus here, too!

I am definitely going to give this a try! I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making hummus. Prayers continuing for you and your family during your stay in Kenya.

It looks like Kenya is going GREAT! Is there any way for me to delete my link up and repost because I forgot to include my giveaway?

Yep, we all love hummus! I just have to remember to take it easy on the garlic — I love a lot but the family as much (though they will still eat it). :)

Thinking of your family while you’re in Kenya!

That sounds yummy! And, guess what? You can make your own roasted red peppers and have them on hand to make this dip anytime! http://alifeinbalance.net/roasted-red-peppers-a-simple-condiment/

Do you think this would be OK without the tahini? I want to give Harry hummus, but I don’t want him to have nuts/seeds just yet.
