Tempur-Pedic {Ultra-Mega Giveaway}

I have a long sordid mattress history.

I’ll start off by saying that the ah-mazing TEMPUR®-ContourSignature and the TEMPUR Advanced Ergo System® that we are sleeping on is our first new mattress in our married life. We’ve been married for nearly 17 years.

It was high time. And yeah, I know, gross.

My very first mattress purchase was made right after college. I had just signed on as a first grade teacher, making a whopping $12, 500 a year. I was so poor, I used my Discover card to buy breakfast every day. I started long-distance dating my soon-to-be-hubby that year and he made me send half my Discover card to him in the mail before we could take our relationship to the next level.

But I bought a mattress on that beloved card. From Bud’s. Anyone ever heard of Bud’s? It used to be a store for WalMart misfits, discontinued items and returns. Let’s just let that fact seep in: My first mattress was a returned item to a WalMart reject store. I got married 6 months later, so we put the mattress on the new bedroom set from my in-laws and lived on love for many years.

It can only get better from there.

Our next mattress was a few years later when my in-laws got a new bed. So, yeah, we got their hand-me-down.

This post is just getting grosser by the paragraph. (If it makes you feel better, it was a very good quality mattress from their spare bedroom. But still). [sidenote: never, ever, pull off your old mattress and expose the filth under your bed in front of your in-laws.]

Our final mattress was from my parents who decided to go from a queen to a king-sized bed. We got their old mattress in like new condition, which is a pattern for us. But in the past few months, it’s had some, um, issues. I’m pretty sure this would fall into the category of things my hubby doesn’t want me to blog about. So, I’ll just give you a hint: it involves an aging dog, frequent bladder issues, our old mattress and pee.

So, YOU CAN IMAGINE, our complete shock and awe and delight in not only getting our first NEW mattress, but a top of the line, TEMPUR®-Contour Signature. [Tempur-Pedic is the most highly recommended bed in America™: 94 percent overall satisfaction for Tempur-Pedic mattress owners.*]

I know the importance of sleep. I’m not a nice mommy/wife when I don’t get enough. (If I could just get everyone out of the bed!)

Did you know that according to a *survey:

  • Americans are also willing to make sacrifices in order to get a good night’s sleep:  Nearly 50 percent of Americans are willing to go a month without Facebook, their iPhones or their iPads (46 percent) in order to get a good night’s sleep!*

Besides getting the best sleep eh-ver, I think these are my favorite things about TEMPUR®-Contour Signature and the TEMPUR Advanced Ergo System® :

  • Designed for those who prefer a firm to medium-firm sleep surface
  • Delivers proper alignment and support to help you fall asleep and stay asleep
  • Provides edge-to-edge, pressure-relieving comfort and support (really helpful when you have back issues!)

And I’d also like to point out that you can put this bed in just about any position imaginable, raise the feet, the head, while you use the rolling massage feature–all accessible with a remote control. (The massage feature lulls me to sleep every night) I’m completely serious!

When I was contacted by Temper-Pedic, I was beyond excited but not just because I was getting a bed, I’m thrilled to get to give a bed to one VERY lucky reader.

So, we’re gonna have ourselves a little contest.

If my [old] mattress could talk, this is what it would “tweet”

“A Princess Sleeps Here and so does Pee”

Get it? Ha! (Only don’t tell my hubby) {wink}

I posted a comment last night, but I don’t see it… will try again but I hope it doesn’t post twice!

We’ve been married 16 years, and I could sympathize so well with your story that I cried giving myself whiplash from nodding so vigorously as I read your post… amen, sister!

My mattress would say: “A bunch of us have been springing out of bed for years, why can’t she?” (If I felt well rested, maybe I could spring out of bed this easily too!)

We’re trying to wait until spring to buy a new mattress, but it seems SO far away!

Princess Crankypants and Prince Crankypants kindly request a bed with no training pants rejects. You know who you are Sir leeks alot.

  3. 9

Grrr! I broke my camera getting this pic, then I couldn’t get it to upload, and when I finally got it to upload I misspelled the caption!! I need a nap…a new mattress sure would help. 😉

  4. 10

Not trying to enter, because I’m not giving up my waterbed, not even for a fantastic new mattress. When we first got married, we used the waterbed my husband made in high school shop class. Then for a few years it was a mattress and box spring from my grandparents — the set they bought after he got home from World War II. I guess mattresses used to last a lot longer, since it was still in good shape when we gave it away and switched back to the waterbed.

Congratulations on YOUR fantastic new mattress — I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more!

Kristen, I added a photo from my computer, but Mr Linky didn’t let me add my “text”. Help! I wanted to say:
We sleep on foam, but it makes us want to roam.

  6. 12

“Your parents slept on me for years. Your VERY ill grandma slept on me for two years when she went to live with them. Your husband doesn’t like me… he says I don’t agree with his chronic pain issues. Though I’m the best mattress you’ve had in nearly twelve years of marriage, you can’t seem to see past my flaws. This is a toxic relationship and I think it’s time we parted ways.”

  7. 13

This is too funny! I would love to enter but feel every single one who has entered so far deserves it much more than I do. Our mattress is 17 years old but is not anywhere as bad as these. Good luck and I can’t wait to read the rest of them. Did you know that a mattress will weigh 20 pounds heavier after 10 years because of all of the dust mites? Totally grossed me out when I heard this. No wonder my mattress almost weights 40 pounds more. Yuck!

  8. 14

I am not sure that my tweet showed up under my entry #22. It should say “16 years from parents to son to newlyweds, state to state… I have earned the right to retire!” Can you add that? Thanks! What a great giveaway!

  9. 17

Wow, what an AWESOME giveaway!!! I entered above (the biology major in me came out…) so we’ll see what happens! 😉 My poor old mattress definitely needs replaced after 30 years.

  12. 20

Can’t wait to see who makes the finals. I’ve got my fingers crossed, especially since my hubby thinks money is better spent on things we really need. Like a THIRD laptop for the home. Ah-hem . . . yep, we, uh, have a desktop, too.

I mean, really, did you SEE the pic I took of our mattress with the speedbump?!

    I rest my case. ha!

    Thanks, Kristen!

  13. 21

I did manage to enter but could not upload the picture directly from my computer. It said that link had already been used. Flickr account to the rescue!

    Alecia says

So, I posted picture #63, but never got the option to post my caption:
    In Haiku:
    Twice a hand-me-down
Ugly pink and like a rock
    The covers slide off

    Can you fix it, please?

I can’t seem to get the picture to load and have been trying for days…….. The title for ours would be “It’s been a hard long road” When we did our last move the mattress literally flew out of the truck and slid down the road….. My husband was like-Hurry up help me….. All I could think of was I can’t get out and scrape my bed off the road. I know people around here. The move before that I walked in just as my husbands friends folded the king sized mattress in half “to make it easier to carry up the stairs” REALLY?????? Our bed is never empty. I sleep (or try to) at night. My husband sleeps (or tyrs to) during the day. We don’t get to rest neither does our bed. It is one hard working matress and really needs to retire. Did I mention we have four kids who all have done or spilled sometning on my bed. What happened to my oasis? My sanctuary? My soft place to land???? I sooooo NEED a new bed!

  16. 25

This is such an awesome giveaway! I always love when I see a giveaway that the blog host also receives a gift, I think it makes it twice as fun to give away! Enjoy your new mattress! :) So excited to see how this giveaway goes! I was not going to enter originally and then realized I could flip the mattress over and then take a picture of it! 😉

George Washington didn’t sleep here. Neither does anyone else. This is such a cute contest. I enjoyed looking and laughing at all the pictures.

  19. 34

Did you add another day to the contest or something? I was able to vote in the morning on 9/1 but now it says voting will start tomorrow. What’s the deal? I already told all my friends about it and they’re wanting to vote.

    • 34.1

There is a ticker under the photos that shows when voting begins. I believe that Tempur-Pedic will be selecting the finalists first however- narrowing down the entries.
I’m sure that Kristen could fill you in more, however.
      Many Blessings…
