For When You Need a Sign {A Special Post}

{Updated with Winners} Congrats to random commenters: #56  Cheryl, #6 Hallie, #43 Beth Shepherd, #41 Rachel, #51 Miranda. Everyone else, buy the book! Proceeds go to Mercy House.
Sometimes I get an email that just stops me in my tracks.
I wanted to share one of them with you, but please understand that this isn’t boasting.
I know this isn’t about me. It’s about Him.

This email reminded me that there are moms out there-in the carline, at the grocery store, on your street-that need Him. And maybe they don’t know how to find Him and they are waiting on us to lead the way….
They are looking for a sign.

Dear Kristen, We do not know one another and have never met, but I just read your book and it was awesome! This is not something I would normally write…but I HAD too. I checked out your book from the local library and knew I had to buy it, even before I knew the proceeds go to Mercy House.

Reading this book was an experience for me. I wasn’t just being entertained. I was connecting with something and having an actual experience. It is difficult to describe. I needed these stories and I loved it!

I have been trying to know God better and I can feel he speaks to me, (not in a literal voice), but I am apparently not a good listener. He is telling me to come find Him, and bring my children. I am lost only because I am not following the signs.

I thought I had just stumbled upon your book but I know now I was led to it. The versus and the prayers really spoke to me and I was compelled to tell you, and genuinely thank you. So, thank you and your family for this wonderful gift you all helped to make and share!

If you know a mom who needs Him or needs a little encouragement, I’d like you to leave her first name in the comment section.

I’m going to randomly draw 5 names and giveaway FIVE copies of my book, Don’t Make Me Come Up There! for winners to pass along to a friend.

Maybe she’s just waiting on a sign.

And your the one that’s supposed to deliver it.

P.S. if you feel like you’re the mom in this email, please feel free to leave your own name!

I have heard that it is easy to stay connected to God during times of sadness and stress… the challenge is to keep feeling connected during times of great joy or peacefulness. I think we can all use a reminder now and then (or more often than that…!). I would love to win this book. I know just the person to share it with, too. (But I might peek at it myself, first!)

I met a sweet visitor at church yesterday who told me specifically that she was wanting God in her life. This post made me think instantly of Christine.

I’ve recently started following your blog and just looked at your book on Amazon – I think *I* am a mom who needs a little encouragement! The first few stories made me think of when my then four year old ate half a tube of toothpaste while I was feeding the baby breakfast… I am in that season of life where I long for the quiet moments so I can have a thought to myself. If I don’t win your book, I will be buying it. Are you in the Houston area?

  4. 4

Keri is who came to my mind…

  5. 5

I agree with Candy, that *I* am also that mom. However, I know others, too. Three of my neighbors are not believers and one is a sing;e mom who is overworked, underappreciated, and could really stand to read your book, putting God in the context of our parenting lives. I would gladly give your book to Janeen, Jennifer, or Nicole.

My friend Caley comes to mind.

I am one of those people who also thinks *I* am one who needs encouragement — I found your blog through Stumble Upon (LOVED the ‘What we did on the last day of summer vacation post’), we’re totally gonna do that over fall break! — we’re a family of 6 and are also a ‘THAT family.’
4 kids in 3.75 years — no twins — and have had virtually no support. The kids are in the tween/teen years, and well….
    Immabout to lose my mind!

I have a friend with three little girls the oldest is almost 7. She has her hands full and I know she could use some extra encouragement as she is going through a rough time. Please pray for Regina!

Thank you Kristin… God is using you… and using you… and using you. And you keep saying “Yes” and I am grateful.
    Blessings on the journey~

I’ve been wanting to buy one for sometime for my friend Kristi, mom of three amazing little girls…she’s one of the best, grounded moms I know, but I know she doesn’t always see herself like that. She’s constantly an inspiration to me on how she loves Jesus, challenges the norm with her parenting, and lifestyle in general. Recently she’s taken on a new roll at our church, and I know as a family, they’ve been working hard at finding balances…

    Thank Kirsten, for inspiring moms!

I have no idea how I found your site this morning…stumbled upon it hopping from blog to blog reading different topics from downloadable checklists to DIY home projects! HA story of my life, a million things in my head at once :P Somewhere behind running a business, managing a family and trying to be a good mom, wife, sister, daughter and friend I question my “religion” and what I believe. I FEEL like I should be in church, and be taking my kids, I FEEL like God maybe shows me signs and points me in the right direction when I pay attention and ask for direction. But when it comes down to it I have no idea what I do and don’t believe…even if I believe everything in the Bible *gasp* (I know, I was raised Baptist, can you imagine?!) I often wonder if the “signs” I get are just in my head or if they really are God showing me things. Anyways, just thought I’d share. I think I’ll go check out the rest of your blog now and see where I land :)

      Tracy,

God speaks in gentle whispers to your heart. He speaks through the peace you feel in a decision. He speaks through love. You don’t *have to* be in church to hear God. He speaks in the everydayness of the day if we only stop to listen. But if you feel He is encouraging you to go to church and to bring your kids, then by all means, find a great church full of people who love Jesus and love you! Being in a supportive group of people where you feel safe to question what you believe is what church should be about. We don’t have all the answers but we can point you to the One Who can answer all your questions :) He wants you to know just how much He loves you and delights in you. Stop everything just for a moment and revel in His love for you. :)

My dear friend Amber. I pray for her a lot. She is a single mom in her late 20′s who is very lonely right now and is ALWAYS on the run and making bad choices.

  32. 33

I have the perfect candidate… and others. Maybe I’ll read your book first even though we haven’t been blessed with children…

  59. 60

I have a friend that lost a baby a couple years ago and she is really having a hard time dealing with it. Maybe this is how she can reconnect with God, because my words are not enough, but I know his are.

Kelsey – a military wife at a new base having a tough time “fitting in” – this would be the perfect pick me up (and I might read it first but don’t tell)

  61. 62

My SIL Kim, she has been saying for a while now that she wants to find a church to start attending but has never made the effort she is a single mom with four kids. I think this book is just the right combomation of humor and faith to get her motivated 8-)
P.S. I read your book on my Kindle app (on my phone) and LOVED it. I have four kiddos and could relate to the stories and the prayers at the end of the stories were perfect!

We have a group of young moms that read the same book and then we discuss it together while our little ones play! This looks like a great one to share with our group! We signed up to adopt about two years ago…and now we are still waiting foster parents…in the meantime I have my two and lots of kids that come through my playroom and yard that I love! I would love for my “mommy group” of friends to read this book together. Maybe it will be in my hands to read and share by the time I have a new little one to love !

  65. 66

Elysha. She could be a great influence for the Lord if she was pointed in the right direction. Her kids and her husband would greatly benefit from a changed heart!

My wife would enjoy reading this. Plus, we have a good friend who she would give it to next.

  92. 93

I just checked our library’s catalog to see if they had your book, and sadly, they don’t. I would LOVE to read your book … because honestly, I’ve been struggling with feeling pretty alone in motherhood. I had great support from friends from church for the first month, but now that I’m not a “new mom” anymore and the novelty has worn off, I’m pretty much on my own. My husband’s WONDERFUL, but a girlfriend once in a while would be nice (and all my close friends live far away). I desperately need a pick-me-up.

  93. 94

I have tried to get your book at the library, I’ve requested that they buy it, and I’ve searched the database of other libraries. I don’t know why I feel drawn to this book, but I do.

I would read the book with praying heart. I am a stay at home mom stuggling with remembering my daily purpose, fighting the mundane, and trying to remember my daily blessings. Dwell on the things of God to keep your joy, right?! I know the answers and have Christ in my heart, but sometimes you need extra encouragement and reminders. I will share this book once I have read it. Thanks for the opportunity!

  102. 103

I am living overseas, in the Middle East. Sometimes life and this country are a big challenge for me. I don’t speak the lingo. and find difficulty in meeting other married women with families. I count my blessings with a joyful heart, as I know there are many here in this country living lives of poverty.
I would read this book first, and I would then pass it to a very needy lady who has just lost her husband.
I know it would help us both.
