I remember when my parents were our age.
Forty-one. Thirty-nine.
I thought they were so old.
What did I know?
When my husband smiles, his eyes crinkle. I see his father.
I have my mother’s hands.
Both our parents inching towards their golden anniversary. Fifty years.
It’s a mantle we wear proudly.
He still closes the door behind me in the closet and kisses my neck.
But his socks are still on the floor.
I love that guy anyway.
He sips coffee, tea for me. We write love notes. We grow old together.

But my parents are planning to renew their vows in July 2014 for their 60th! (for the 3rd time) They were married in 1954 with just 2 witnesses in a small church and mom wore a 2 piece gray suit. For their 25th they had a big church renewal ceremony with many family and friends and mom wore my white wedding dress. I am their only daughter. For their 40th they traveled back to the tiny town they were married in, visited the church again and mom wore the same style suit as her original that she had had tailored in a rich royal red brocade, complete with tiny veiled hat and drawstring bag. They love to Celebrate their love!

I got married at age 19 & I had NO IDEA what I was committing to. But I praise God for His faithfulness because, even though these past 10 years have not been easy, I cannot imagine not being a Mrs. to my Mr.

We’ll be married 36 years on June 5th! We are blessed and still very much or more so in love today than that day so long ago.
18 years married, together for 22 years as of March 12. And we’ve sort of been married twice. We almost didn’t make it past year 7, so for that anniversary we “started over” by renewing our vows.
Thank you, by the way, for all the posts about marriage and about your husband. My instinct, when I read about some of the things your husband does, is to be incredibly jealous. But I am trying to be thankful instead – thankful that there are men out there like your husband, and thankful for my own husband who is wonderful in his own ways.
