Worthy of the Prize {Giveaway}

UPDATED WITH WINNERS:  Congratulations to Kristina Z. (comment 6) and Julie (comment 7)

So.

I downloaded Couch to 5k the other day.

I’ve completed the first week (3 days).

I don’t even know who I am anymore. I’m sore and achy and I miss my couch.

I’m not really interested in running a race (Mr. Welch) and I don’t care about my time or even pace.  I’m just interested in finishing.

Life is a lot like a race. We fall down and get back up. The key is in continuing. Our Christian life is compared to a race in the Bible:

In a race, all the runners run but only one gets the prize. Run in such a way as to get the prize! Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever! {1 Corinthians 9:24-25}

Of course, my tangible prize is sweet tea. But I do look good in crowns.

Worthy of the Prize is a ministry that uses sports as a way to reach people for Christ as well as encourage us in the journey. They have provided each of our Mercy House moms with a set of Fit Cards to help them learn Scripture. You can clip these cards on your keychain, bag, etc. and carry them with you while you are out so you can pray, memorize scripture and do devotionals while walking the neighborhood, sitting in the carpool line, etc…the prayer cards are great for praying the biblical virtues over your children, you can insert their names into the guided prayers.

Today, Worthy of the Prize is offering TWO of my readers:

1 Ta Dot Fit Band {wristlet keychain}, 1 Set of Fit Cards {winner’s choice – either prayer, scripture-memory or devotional} and a copy of the book Worthy of the Prize Sports Camps.

About the Book: Worthy of the Prize Sports Camps is a church’s guide to implementing an effective, community-reaching Christian sports camp. Any church can use it as a community outreach or on mission – it would be like buying VBS curriculum and running it at your church, but instead of doing crafts, you learn basic skills in your sport and biblical truths and also hear the gospel message.
Please leave a comment if you’d like to win!
This giveaway will end Thursday.

I’ve just been waiting for temps above freezing and snow melting (I’m in central Minnesota!) to give the Couch to 5K program another shot. Last summer I got stuck on Week 3 for 3 weeks and petered out after that. With all that has happened in the last several months, and with my son just wanting to be able to run again, I have more determination this time!
I love cards like that, I’ve made some homemade sets over the years. Such a great way to sneak in a few minutes of memory work here and there while out and about!
Let me know how Week 4 goes, k? :D

Ha! That is totally the app I was talking about that brought up the whole itchy legs conversation at Relevant way back when…

  3. 3

What a great idea. I often keep scripture on index cards, but then end up with them not fitting in my purse. I so love these!

  27. 29

Oooo, I like this giveaway :)

  28. 30

I NEED to do Couch to 5K, but I’d rather read those devotional cards while I have five minutes of quiet time in-between laundry and being a referee to the kids.

    Michelle says:

I did C25K when I was first pregnant and was able to run until I was 29 weeks pregnant. I just started again after 2 years off and it’s surprisingly not that bad the second go round. My tip is to not skip days–make your self run no matter what and don’t repeat weeks. I just finished week 5 where it goes from 2, 8 minute runs to 1, 20 minute run and I thought I would die but I didn’t! You can do it!

  30. 32

I love to run (or walk/jog) it helps me connect with God…I listen, I pray, I think, I am in His world at that point!

  31. 33

This is a wonderful idea and a great way to sneak God into any spare moment you have. I would love to have these to gain more spiritual guidance into my life everyday.

  32. 34

    God reign down your healing!

  34. 36

  35. 37

My daughters softball season is about to start. Which means alot of time outside at practices. Which means alot of time to couch to 5k. What great inspiration!

  36. 38

I’ve just completed day one of the Couch to 5K and I’m so sore I can’t stand it! When did I get this old and out of shape?!?

I would absolutely love to win!!! I love Worthy of the Prize!

You have my total support & encouragement on your couch to 5K journey! I started & completed C25K Oct of 2010 & since then have kept up witih running & am training for a Half Marathon in June. I NEVER EVER EVER thought I’d run 10 minutes, much less 13 miles but the program is amazing! :) Good luck & have fun!

Way to go for starting the program! I’m 32 days into trying to get myself off the couch more and adding more activity into my days. Thank you for the opportunity to win this great prize…seems like very good timing for me. I could benefit from all the encouragement I can get. :)

    Awesome! Hang in there!

I’m always writing scripture on post its and index cards – I’d love a set like this. And the book looks really neat!

  64. 66

What a great way to renew and connect to God.

  65. 67

These are awesome! Running has always been a huge stress reliever for me and I have had some of my best, most honest and open moments with God while out running. I haven’t been able to run for a long time now—due to schedule, cold weather and a newborn. Hopefully soon, I can get back at it. Thanks for sharing that book too. We are just taking over a youth ministry that needs a lot of help (which only God can give) and this may be a great way to get more community involvement.

  66. 68

Those cards are awesome. Any update on your sister-in-law?
