I’ve been working on a project for months in the cracks of my time.
My husband has listened patiently and pushed me gently.
And then last week, some pieces fell together and while I was helping my Kindergartner with sight words after school, I moved one step closer to my goal and that made me squeal. Literally.
She just looked at me like I was crazy.
She’s a perceptive child.
But I knew I wouldn’t be able to truly rejoice until I talked with my best friend. I called my husband at work. His response made my joy complete because he has been with me on the journey.
My husband lost his sister and one of his closest friends a month ago this week. His sorrow is great and there is a cloud of sadness that hangs heavy. It’s unchartered waters, this grief that invades every space at the most unexpected moments. It comes in waves and just when you think you can laugh again, you cry. But he isn’t grieving alone.
We don’t always agree.
We don’t always get along.
But we are one.
We go together. His grief is mine. My joy is his. It’s the sacred gift of marriage, this unexplainable, undeniable act of becoming One. It’s the most precious gift we share.
It’s what helps us thru the valleys and the mountaintops, the sheer pleasure of facing them together.

I really, really like the new “One” shirts!! My husband and I have been reading Love and Respect and are so excited to be attending their marriage conference next week. They talk about viewing the world through pink and blue and how to come together……these shirts are a perfect reminder of that! Love them!

Love the silver ONE shirts! I love the whole site! My husband has been taking care of me and our two other children for the past 8 months while I’ve experienced a rough pregnancy that has required me to be on home health care since week 7. I will def be sporting a “my husband rocks” shirt in a few more months. He did the cooking, cleaning, carpooling, grocery shopping, and meals for almost 6 months while working full time and taking care of me. He totally ROCKS!

My favorites are these in your post! I stood over Union28′s table at a women’s conference this fall and wanted to buy one of each… I like them all – I couldn’t figure out one (or 2 if I got my husband one) that I loved the most… We moved 1800 miles with a 7 week old baby and a 22 month old and a 3 1/2 year old in August to be closer to family after we found out my dad’s health problems were more serious than we initially anticipated. We are now living in my parent’s home with my sister and her two girls, my parents, and the 5 of us – while we search for stable jobs. WOW! I tell my husband weekly as he is applying for jobs and interviewing that no matter what I am standing beside him! We are both working random part time jobs to pay bills and save until we can get out of my parent’s basement – and even through this muck we are ONE!
