“I knew you would come.”
She said the words with so much conviction that I was speechless.
Before I could ask how she knew, she answered, “I cried out to God for help to provide for my children. He sent you.”
We stood in the doorway of her tiny home and she welcomed me like an answered prayer. I can still feel her tight grip around my neck, her hot tears on my cheek, whispering the words I cannot forget into my ear. The words have haunted me in the dead of night–especially on the days I don’t want to go. I carry her story with me everywhere. It’s messy and heartbreaking and still unfolding.
This is the kind of God who loves us, who sees each of us, wherever we are.
We serve a Creator who designs our deliverance before we know desperation.
We serve a King who makes a way before we know we need one.
We serve a God who uses the weak and inadequate because He is strong and enough.
I thought of every bracelet and necklace, every pair of earrings, the bars of soap, bags of coffee, every email, every order in the mail and whispered a prayer of thanks because you keep showing up.
Just like she knows you will.
Don’t think for a minute that it doesn’t matter. Every time you do something for someone else, you are an answer to someone’s prayer.
A friend of mine was on a packed bus in India, sharing a crowded seat with a chicken and goats. She watched her Indian friends’ faces brighten as they clapped. They had just read something on their phone and they were celebrating.
My friend leaned over to ask the fair trade artisan group leaders what was so exciting.
“We got an order from America!” they responded.
My friend, thinking it must be significant said, “What is it for?”
“Someone in the USA ordered a bracelet,” the happy response.
We knew you would come. We knew you would order. We knew you would remember us. We knew we weren’t alone.
We know we are priceless because you keep showing up.
Every woman everywhere deserves to know that she is loved and valued by the God who created her.
She is priceless like a treasured pearl.
She isn’t a commodity to be bought and sold, but she has been paid for by the precious blood of Jesus.
Tell her she is priceless. It’s the goal of the dozens and dozens of ministries we work with who work to remind women of this truth and today, we are asking you again–to show up. And that’s why we are inviting you into their stories because when we give our lives away, we are given unspeakable joy.
Today, at Mercy House Global, we are joining our hands around the world and raising money for 8 non-profits who exist to empower women in oppression and poverty with She Is Priceless, a Global Giving Day.
We are donning our pearls (#putonyourpearls), taking selfless selfies, giving sacrificially and standing up to say we see these injustices, these desperate women who are begging God for provision so they don’t have to make desperate decisions.
Will you give to one of the organizations we are partnering with–working in hard places, with the most vulnerable?
Will you please join with us today and boldly declare with your time and resources we see you and we are here to say, you are not alone. He is with you.
Because women around the world–including you–are priceless.
