It started with a handful of college kids.
They knew modern day slavery, commonly known as sex trafficking, was destroying the lives of thousands and thousands of girls who were trapped in the worse kind of Hell.
So. They came up with a crazy idea: They would rescue one girl.
Their Idea:
In March of 2009, four friends simply said “yes” to the inspiration to do something about human trafficking. Rescue The Girl started as an event to raise enough money to at least rescue one girl from the horrors of modern slavery. Within just a few weeks the four friends were on a plane to India to film a documentary about the tragedy and hope of modern slavery. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into.
This July our team is going back to India to bring hope and healing to girls rescued from the horrors of the brothels. We’re going on the ground, into the thick of it, to tell them that they are worth fighting for as we hand-deliver inspired art, personal messages, and nearly $10,000 in aftercare raised by hundreds of students and ordinary people like you and me. We’re showing them how valuable and loved they really are!
Bottom line: These kids need money. Will you give? Will you help them rescue another girl?
I know the couple behind this ministry. They go to my church. They have been married for less than three months and they are world changers. Yesterday, we talked about the terribly wrong things in the world. Child sex slaves is among the worst.
Will you strive and yearn with them to Rescue the Girl?

It’s a good work they are doing and so good of you to spread awareness! Do you know that here in America the average age girls get forced into sex slavery is 12?! It is the fastest growing organized crime and will soon overtake the drug trade. It is all over our nation as well…we don’t have to look far. We just filed papers in Baltimore for Safe House of Hope…to open transitional housing for under aged girls brought out of sex trafficking. Do you know there are less than 20 beds in the country available?
Thank you for sharing!

Curious how they rescued her. It’s not clear from the video. Did they purchase her freedom – buy paying the traffickers – or did they partner with law enforcement to free her?
Hi Lisa-Jo,
They are working closely with an established underground ministry in India -and this is what they do. I believe they have around 20 girls living there. I’m not sure if they tell exactly how it was done. I don’t think it was their initial plan. The documentary that is coming out will probably have more specifics.
You have amazing me for over a year with your posts and continue to do so. Thank you for convicting my heart and ministering to me through your blog.
Sorry I ment have been amazing me….
Hi Kristen,
I met you at MercyShips orientation. I’ve been visiting your blog and just love it, I also told my daughter, who has a blog herself all about yours. Thank you for putting this post on this travesty that is going on in our world. I’m in Dallas and some of my friends go to the port of Houston, Texas and try to intercept these young girls and rescue them from sex slavery. Thank for bringing this problem to our attention.
The PayPal link did not work for me. Was it my computer, or no?
God has really given me a passion for this, but I have had no idea where to start. So donating money is a great place to begin (but I know I am called to do more, so I will be excited how that plays out), so thank you for sharing!
Your posts have been challenging me (in a good way), so I appreciate you not only bringing to light the problems that exist….but also ways to do something about it. I have 3 small children, so at this point in my life, I am limited on my capabilities, yet I want to do something.
Anyway, thank you for being courageous enough to bring to light issues that make us uncomfortable. That is just what we all need, in my opinion!!
Great clip. It looks like they are starting something amazing. When I click on your “Donate here” link, I am getting an error.
I fixed the donate button. Thanks for telling me.
I didn’t know if I should throw up or cry when he said ‘this is going on right here in suburban, middle-class America’. It’s easier to think of when it is something ‘over there’. Still heartbreaking, but not something that WE do. And here it is. On our shores, in our country, our people. And I will never know if I drove past a house today where some 12 year old girl was being hidden away to be used and discarded. I will never know if the man I passed in the grocery store aisle thinks that children are a commodity to be bought and sold. I wish I could save them all, but for now I WILL start with just one girl…
Thank you, Kristen, for bringing this to our attention and providing us the opportunity to help. This one hits very, very close to home. I’ve survived sexual slavery, and survived it well, and as such, I feel an immense sense of responsibility to do all that I can to help other girls get out of that horrific situation, and to help them overcome the challenges they’ll be facing in the years ahead — perhaps someday, they’ll be able to help someone else… but I pray that someday, this destructive, evil situation will no longer exist.
There is ALWAYS hope — we are a part of that hope.
Thank you for sharing such an important message.
Rescue the Girl will be in my prayers!
Hey Kristen,
recently discovering we live in the 3rd highest area for sex trafficking our church is having a huge concert weekend to raise funds for Courage House. One of the only Christian rescue homes for girls being rescued from this life. Our worship pastor is actually a recording artist played on the radio world wide, and she is bringing in Faith Hills Guitar player, Toby Keiths drummer …really great talent, this is no ordinary concert. Courage House can be seen at c2bu.com (courage to be you). I know you are too far away, but if any one is in the Sacramento area they can come out July 9th and 10th to one of the concerts. I love where God has taken you, your heart and your blog. You rock.
Are you and your friends aware of The Rhema Project? http://www.therhemaproject.org/
They are also working in India to improve the lives of female children. Just thought I would help make the potential connection.
Thanks to you all.
