The Devil is a Sly Old Fox Remix

September 26, 2010 by Kristen

I haven’t turned on my video camera since July. When I did the other day, I was tickled to find a plethora of forgotten music videos from my 3 year old.

She’s got quite a gift for noise music. The tune usually eludes her, but that never stops her.

The following 2 minute video is a musical review-of-sorts. It’s got a little bit for everyone.

Featuring a tune from my childhood: The Devil is a Sly Old Fox

(lyrics: If I could catch him, I’d put him in a box, I’d lock that box and throw away the key for all those tricks he’s played on me. I’m glad I am a Christian, trusting in the Lord).

Overall impression: The theology is questionable, but her delivery is right on the mark. I really like her expression and the way she interpreted the song.

Featuring: All the Single Ladies

(lyrics: all the single ladies, all the single ladies, put your hands up and shake like you just don’t care)

Overall impression: I really like the artistic hand expression and the backup singer.

Featuring: A Whole New World

(lyrics: Aladdin Come Out -repeat 942 times or until  your momma says ENOUGH)

Overall impression: The electric guitar adds a nice touch and while riding on an exercise bike? Memorable rendition.

Which one is your favorite?

Why We Choose Public School [For Now]

September 2, 2010 by Kristen

Well. My kids have been back in school for two weeks. It's been tiring, but good. I got this interesting comment on a post I wrote the other day about sending our kids back to school with purpose, where I mentioned that my kids go to public school. "I just can’t get on board with the idea of “sending our children to be lights in the dark world” at such a young age. At almost 30, I feel totally unprepared to witness most days. I know Christian schools aren’t perfect but the thought of ... Read More

When Prayer Requests Go Wrong

August 15, 2010 by Kristen

My hubby and I have been teaching Sunday School for a couple of years. We teach 5, 6, and 7 year olds. The lesson is usually taught by my hubby and I tackle the crafts every week. But I live for "prayer request time." But don't let my holiness deceive you, some weeks it's the best laugh I get. Because 5, 6 and 7 year old pray about everything. And I mean, everything. I've been jotting down some of the especially hilarious heart-felt ones. It starts out like this: "Do y'all have ... Read More

DIY: Make Beautiful Beads from Recycled Newspaper

July 8, 2010 by Kristen

I saw these beautiful beads made from recycled newspaper and decided to try and make them. They reminded me of the lovely paper beads that Katie teaches Ugandan ladies to make and sell for sustainable living. I haven't done anything creative in awhile and my daughter and I were itching to get our hands dirty. This is a messy project that takes place over a couple of days, but I thought it was surprisingly easy, fun and creative. Step 1: Shred newspaper and put it in a large stock ... Read More

When Jesus Isn’t Enough

July 7, 2010 by Kristen

When I sat in his closet-sized home in the middle of Africa, I couldn't take my eyes off the pathetic interior or ignore the dripping rain on my head. I tried not to imagine the "community toilet" he shared with neighbors adjoined by paper-thin walls or how far he walked each way to school everyday, in the dark, both ways. The peace on his face was undeniable and the light that radiated from his eyes filled the dark room of his orphan-led home. I didn't understand how he could be so ... Read More

Why is America Blessed?

June 30, 2010 by Kristen

This is the question I can't stop thinking about. Why does North America have so much, while the rest of the world has so little? The little trip my hubby and I took at the beginning of the month wasn't a romantic getaway. It was an informational meeting with an amazing Christian charity that works in Africa. We wanted to learn more and we did. We don't know if we have a future with this group, but we are asking God and we're trying to be patient. In one of the sessions, they had every ... Read More
